Celebrating 25 years of good food & fun

Historia

Biografia do Mirage.

The Mirage was built in 1988 by the present owner. It is a substantial building that took two years to complete, which might seem a long time by today’s standards but at that point construction in the Algarve was a painfully slow process as there was very little heavy machinery available and the foundations which were dug by hand go directly down into rock.

The architecturall design is a mixture of modern flair and traditional Algarveian style. This was one of the first projects designed by a husband and wife team from Oporto Pedro and Sonya de Sousa.  There are many distinctive and unusual  features which radiate from the impressive circular domed entrance hall.

The restaurant occupies 126 square metres and has a single slab monolithic roof which has eliminated the necessity for internal structural pillars resulting in a large open space. There are numerous curved walls and arched doorways making the building truly interesting and unique. A bar and coffee machine are incorporated and there is a friendly open fire. For the warm summer evenings there is a terrace which looks out onto the garden.

The kitchen is large with auxiliary store  rooms, staff facilities and is equipped to a high standard.

The bar is modern and spacoiyus whilst still maintaining a cosy atmosphere. It has an indipendant pool room and a log fire for those colder Algarve nights.

There is a charming walled garden to the west which incorporated many fascinating features. A patio area to the south east and other garden sections.

The Mirage was built to be exactly what is does to this day a highly functional hotelier establishment full of surprises and a highly efficient unit.

Ample car parking on two sides means that it’s only a few metres from your car to the bar.
